Jacinda keeps moving forwards

There’s three weeks to go until polling day in New Zealand and Jacinda Ardern keeps moving towards a general election win and her first parliamentary majority.

Latest polling shows Labour getting 50.1% of the vote which gives them a very good chance of governing without the need for coalition.

Three changes of leadership in 3 years has left National’s (the centre-right opposition party) reputation for steady competence in tatters.

But that shouldn’t take away from an impressive campaign from Ardern.

Labour have relentlessly focused on their Leader’s star power and dependability. A heavy emphasis has also been placed on supporting post-covid economic recovery.

And there’s a stream of liberal policy offers on things like public holidays, free school meals and the environment to give people clear rational reasons to underpin the emotional basis (Jacinda) for their choice of Labour.
