Lucy Powell’s is standing for Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and her candidate branding is nicely done.
It must be said – it’s fairly basic – but it does the job of positioning her as a change candidate. The use of the yellow-to-red gradient is visually appealing, evoking the semiotics of a rising sun, a new dawn, and therefore political renewal.
In the logo shape with her name, the way the gradient is applied in an L (for Lucy) shape next to her name is a neat, subtle design touch that adds something that would otherwise be a little bland.
Her slogan – “Progressive. Principled. Passionate.” – is a crisp distillation of her pitch: to be both a critical friend of the leadership and a shop steward for the membership and their values.
