These arresting photos of defaced French Presidential campaign posters were featured in an article in The Sunday Times today.
Are the posters emblematic of it being a “change” election?
In the same article in The Sunday Times within which the photos appeared, research by the European Council on Foreign Relations is referred to where only 22% of French voters think their political system works well.
The BBC reports on today’s first round of voting… “Exit polls suggest Emmanuel Macron will face a run-off against Marine Le Pen in the second round of France’s presidential election Macron comes first with 28.1% of the vote while Le Pen receives 23.3%, according to national broadcaster France Télévisions”.
Despite the malaise around the election, given Macron’s 2022 first round lead is likely to be larger than his first round in 2017 – when he went on to win 66% of votes in the second round – it’s hard to imagine him struggling to overcome Le Pen in the run off.
