Democratic Presidential ad spend at the turn of the year

Happy new year! It’s January 1st 2020 and now that 2019 is over we can start properly counting down to the first big electoral event of the year: the Iowa Democratic Caucuses which take place on 3rd Feb.

So far Bernie Sanders has spent approximately $16.5 million on advertising; this is a sizeable chunk more than his left wing rival Elizabeth Warren who has spent around $10.7 million on ads, but less than Pete Buttigieg whose ad spend is about $20 million.

All three are dwarfed by Michael Bloomberg and Tom Steyer, two billionaires in the Democratic contest, who have spent around $100 million each so far on advertising.
