DeSaster

Ron DeSantis failed to launch his 2024 Republican Presidential Primary campaign last night as technical glitches delayed and then destroyed a Twitter Spaces discussion with Elon Musk.

It’s hard to over-exaggerate how awkward the technical problems made the launch event.

It was so bad that everything else about the launch was drowned out.

Ron DeSantis launching his Presidential campaign in a live conversation on Twitter with Elon Musk is a very cool idea.

DeSantis’ campaign will live or die by whether they can limit Trump’s earned media share, and this big digital stunt was a great concept to get coverage.

But the execution couldn’t have been any worse.

He’s followed it up with a very average launch video. It’s cheap, lacks an idea and is void of an emotionally engaging narrative.

The slogan he’s using is poor – way too passive. It lacks a strong verb, and it borrows from a slogan that Trump used very recently.

There is also nothing noteworthy about the logo or visual identity. It looks like something from a middle-of-the-road Republican candidate.

I assumed that DeSantis delayed his entry to the race to prepare for an impressive launch.

He needed this launch to make up for the fact that he missed his moment at the start of the year, instead it’s set him further back.
