Sunak hammered for hypocrisy

Labour accuse Sunak of acting unfairly and hypocritically on the policy area which is top of people’s concerns.

This week it was revealed that U.K. Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s wife has been claiming, for tax purposes, that she does not live in the UK.

By doing so she has avoided paying U.K. tax on her SIGNIFICANT overseas earnings.

She owns £700m in shares of the Indian IT giant Infosys, founded by her father, from which she received £11.6m in dividend income last year.

This type of revelation would usually be absolutely devasting for any Chancellor of the Exchequer, but it could not have come at a worse time for Sunak given that he has just raised taxes and the nation’s standard of living has plummeted at the fastest rate since the 1950s.

As can be seen in this video, Labour will now be able to draw a stark contrast between extra taxes on British families that are struggling financially and Sunak’s family who have avoided taxes whilst making vast sums of cash.

As the economy was already comfortably perceived as the most important issue facing the UK, the Labour Party had been focusing their 2022 local election messaging on the cost of living.

This news has fit seamlessly and powerfully into their campaign. And it neatly chimes with the “one rule for them, another for us” narrative that has been spun by Labour for some time.

This will be toxic for the Tories for a long time to come.
